New Delhi: Close to 300 people have died in the past two days following landslides in Kerala's Wayanad district and more than 50 are missing in Himachal Pradesh after cloudbursts on August 1, 2024.

Amid ongoing rescue operations in these states, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rain alerts for several states including Delhi, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.

IMD Issues Rain Alert for Several States

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra and East Madhya Pradesh for August 2nd. 

Additionally, the IMD has issued a very heavy rain alert for several other regions, including Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Konkan, Goa, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Assam, and Meghalaya.

An orange alert has been issued for Delhi, indicating the likelihood of heavy showers and waterlogging in the National Capital and rainfall is expected to be there till 5th August.

IMD has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra and East Madhya Pradesh for August 2nd.

  • IMD Issues Rain Alert in These States

IMD Issued alerts for the western coastal region including parts of Maharashtra and Goa as it is expected to receive heavy rainfall until 3rd August. Gujarat is also anticipated to see such heavy downpours.

  • Orange Alert in Delhi

An orange alert has been issued for Delhi, indicating the likelihood of heavy showers and waterlogging in the National Capital and rainfall is expected to be there till 5th August.

  • Heavy Rainfall Forecast for North India

In Northern India, very heavy rainfall is expected in Uttarakhand until August 3. Heavy rainfall is forecasted in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan until August 4. Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected in Uttar Pradesh on August 2-3, in Punjab and Haryana on August 2.

  • Delhi Rain: Latest Update

The National Capital received 107.6 mm of Rainfall between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning marking yet another extreme weather event this monsoon as it eclipsed the total rainfall recorded in the entirety of August in 2023, as well as 2022 as per the reports of the India Meteorological Department Data.  

  • 4 Dead After Himachal Cloudburst
     

At least, 4 died and 47 still missing after multiple cloud bursts in parts of Himachal Pradesh following overnight rains. 

Malana Dam on the Parvati River burst in Himachal Pradesh leaving houses, temples and crops damaged in the area.
