Good News For Delhi-NCR: New Metro Line to Link Ghaziabad with Jewar Airport Soon
Residents of Delhi NCR have reason to celebrate as the central government has approved the Metro rail line project to Jewar Airport
New Delhi: Residents of Delhi NCR and especially those of Noida and Greater Noida have reason to celebrate as the central government has approved the Metro rail line project to Jewar Airport, providing a direct connection from Ghaziabad to the airport via Greater Noida West.
Arunvir Singh, CEO of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YIEDA), stated to a media organisation, "The long-stalled metro rail project has finally received approval from the central government, offering much-needed relief to the area's residents struggling with connectivity issues."
The metro project has been a long standing demand from the residents of Greater Noida and Noida. It is anticipated that this new development will not only ease traffic congestion but also contribute to the region's overall growth, boosting real estate activities and attracting investments.
The funding for the project will see contributions from both the central and state governments, each providing 20%, while the remaining 60% will be funded by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).
Additionally, the extension of the Aqua Line from Sector-52 to Knowledge Park V, which will connect to the Namo Bharat line going to Jewar Airport, is expected to significantly benefit commuters, office workers, and school-goers, according to officials.
Jewar Airport, also known as Noida International Airport, is scheduled to begin commercial flights next year, offering services on both domestic and international routes. The project remains on track, with flight testing planned for November 30, 2024. Notably, Jewar Airport is set to become Asia's largest and the world's fourth-largest airport, featuring six runways.
The 72.26 km RapidX-cum-metro route from Ghaziabad RRTS to Noida International Airport (NIA), includes 38 stations, but the present DPR considers 25 stations on which work will start in the initial phase.
