NIA Raids 11 Locations Across Tamil Nadu in Hizb-ut-Tahrir Case
According to PTI, the searches were being carried out at 11 locations in the state.
New Delhi: On Tuesday, September 24, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at multiple locations in Tamil Nadu as part of its probe against the Hizb-ut-Tahrir, a pan-Islamist organisation aspiring to establish an Islamic caliphate in the country, officials said.
According to PTI, the searches were being carried out at 11 locations in the state.
The probe agency in June this year arrested two men associated with the fundamentalist organisation in connection with another case.
In June, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at 10 locations across Tamil Nadu in connection with the Hizb-ut-Tahrir case.
Among the locations raided two sites were in the Erode district.
A source said the raids are still underway, while more information awaits.
The national probe agency had previously arrested an individual in the year 2021 following searches related to the Madurai Hizb-ut-Tahrir case.
The Hizb-ut-Tahir case was initially registered under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 13(1)(b) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
This case was lodged at the Thideer Nagar police station in Tamil Nadu's Madurai.
The accused, Mohammed Iqbal, had allegedly used his Facebook account "Thoonga Vizhigal Rendu is in Kazimar Street" to upload several posts that denigrated a particular community. As per reports, these posts were said to foment communal disharmony among the religious groups in a manner prejudicial to the maintenance of public order.
