Motihari: Collapsing bridges have become a nightmare in Bihar as it continues to haunt the state government and concerned authorities. Just 2 days after around 15 engineers were suspended, who were involved in the construction of 10 bridges, which collapsed in a span of about 2 weeks, another bridge collapsed in Bihar’s Motihari prompting netizens to call Bihar as the ‘house of collapsing bridges’. Report suggests that an RCC culvert built at a cost of Rs 2 lakh in Lohargwa village of Madhuban block in East Champaran's Motihari collapsed on Sunday.
It is being said that the small bridge, which was constructed at a cost of Rs 2 lakh in 2019, was built on the recommendations of the Finance Commission. However, the bridge collapsed within a period of five years after a heavy spell of rainfall lashed the area.
According to the locals, the bridge collapse in Motihari has affected a population of over 500 in the area leaving it disconnected from the nearby block and town. The people of Lohargwa village say that they are very upset due to the breakage of this culvert.
During the collapse of the bridge a person also got injured and was shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, the collapsing bridges have heated up the politics in the state as the opposition took the opportunity to launch an attack on the ruling party. Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav termed it a failure of the double engine government, while the people from the ruling party reminded him of the old history.
Union Minister Chirag Paswan on the other hand has said that those who are alleging that the NDA government is engaged in looting the people, then they should tell in whose time the bridges were constructed. Chirag Paswan said that those who are guilty will be identified and action will be taken against them.
