PM Modi launched the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) membership drive- ‘Sanghatan Parva, Sadasyata Abhiyan 2024’ on Monday.
BJP Membership Drive: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) membership drive- ‘Sanghatan Parva, Sadasyata Abhiyan 2024’ in the national capital on Monday, September 2.
"Another round of 'Sadasyata Abhiyan' is beginning today. From Bharatiya Jana Sangh till now, we have made all possible efforts to being a new political culture in the country. The organisation or political party through which people gives power, that unit, that organisation, that party... if it doesn't follow democratic values, if internal democracy doesn't live in it, then situation arises which is faced by several other political parties today," PM Modi said while addressing the party workers.
BJP president J P Nadda enrolled Modi as the first member, marking the launch of the drive.
The prime minister asked BJP members to think innovatively and make border villages fortresses for the party.
PM Modi said the new generation is not aware of headlines about scams 10 years ago, and asked party leaders to target the 18-25 year age group during the membership drive.
Recalling the BJP's rise from its humble beginning as a two-MP party in Lok Sabha, Modi credited its commitment to the ideology of nation-first and people's welfare for its rise.
The BJP and its forerunner Jana Sangh were mocked by its rivals, he said, adding that the ruling party has done a lot to change the country's political culture.
Modi likened the BJP's membership drive to welcoming new members to a family. The drive is not about numbers but is all about an ideological and emotional campaign, he added.
What is the BJP Membership Drive?
During the BJP's membership drive held every six years, existing memberships are renewed and new members are enrolled into its fold. During a similar membership drive in 2014 and afterwards, the BJP went on to form governments in several states, including in some for the first time. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the BJP will work to enrol people from every age group, caste and religion during the drive.
This month, the BJP has set a goal to enroll at least 100 million new members nationwide, excluding the election-bound states of Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Jharkhand. The membership drive will take place in phases from September 2 to November 10. According to Tawde, individuals can register by giving a missed call, visiting the party's website, or using other digital platforms.
In 2014, approximately 110 million people joined the BJP, and in 2019, around 70 million signed up during a limited-period membership drive.
