Kolkata: The Income Tax department has recovered 70 lakh cash from the residence of Trinamool Congress MLA Bayron Biswas during its raids in Sagardighi, West Bengal, on Thursday, December 21. Multiple teams of the Income Tax department had conducted searches at the residence of MLA Biswas along with other premises linked to him- including a school and hospitals.

The raids at the premises of MLA Bayron Biswas began on Wednesday morning. Notably, the central agency’s raids coincided with the day West Bengal CM and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee was in Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue of pending dues to the state.

Who is Bayron Biswas?

Bayron Biswas was the lone Congress MLA who secured victory in the 2023 assembly bypoll in the Sagardighi constituency. Backed by the Left, Bayron Biswas had defeated MC’s Debashish Banerjee with a margin of over 23,000 votes. However, he switched to TMC just after the elections.
