Agartala: After a clash between two communities over Durga Puja subscription collection, prohibitory orders were imposed in North Tripura’s Kadamtala area on Sunday. The restrictions were placed by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Sajal Debnath under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and will remain in effect until Wednesday to restore normalcy, said local police.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhanupada Chakraborty confirmed that the clash led to communal tension in the area, prompting police to disperse the crowd. “There was communal tension between two communities at Kadamtala over collection of Durga puja subscription on Sunday. Sensing trouble, police dispersed the mob,” said Chakraborty.

"Two houses were vandalised during the incident, and heavy police deployment has been made to control the situation," Chakraborty told reporters. He further stated that legal action would be taken against those involved.

The prohibitory orders aim to prevent further unrest as authorities work to bring calm to the area.
