Kolkata: The Kolkata Police have claimed that it has arrested two individuals who were allegedly conspiring to attack protesting junior doctors outside the Health Department headquarters. Speaking to reporters, Bidhannagar DCP Aneesh Sarkar said, "We had received information from our sources that professional criminals were planning to attack doctors protesting outside the Swasthya Bhawan. We even came across an audio clip of the conversation between two people where this conspiracy was exposed... We have fact-checked this audio clip and it is found to be authentic.

He added, "Based on this audio clip, we have registered a case, and two people have been arrested so far... One accused, Sanjeev Das has accepted that the voice in the audio is his. The two will be presented in court and we have demanded a 14-day custody of both of them. The facts we have found during our technical analysis will be presented before the court... We have increased the number of CCTV cameras at the protest site, and also the security deployed… A case has been registered under BNS sections 224, 352, 353 A, B(ii), 351(ii), and 61."

TMC leader Kunal Ghosh has also shared the audio clip on X (formerly Twitter). “The audio clip makes it clear that some people wanted to attack the junior doctors last night and they may be at the game again. We have asked the police and security forces to be on alert and ensure it doesn’t happen. We hope to peacefully resolve the issue,” Ghosh wrote on X.

In the alleged audio clip, two individuals are reportedly discussing plans to attack the doctors staging a sit-in protest outside Swasthya Bhavan.

Amid the continuing impasse, CM Mamata Banerjee made a surprise visit to the site where the junior doctors were protesting, and assured them that she would look into their demands and take action if anyone was found guilty.

Addressing the protesting doctors amid chants of 'we want justice' outside the Swasthya Bhawan in Salt Lake, Banerjee said she would not take any steps against them as she did not believe in suppressing a democratic movement.

However, after she left the site, the agitating doctors said they were not ready to compromise on their demands till discussions were held, indicating no immediate breakthrough in the impasse.
