Lucknow: With the festival season approaching in the city, the Lucknow district administration has decided to impose Section 163 (formerly Section 144) to maintain law and order. The restrictions, effective immediately, will remain in place until November 13, 2024.

Under Section 163, several regulations have been imposed, including a ban on large gatherings, processions, and the use of loudspeakers late at night. Authorities aim to prevent any potential disruption or security threats during the festive period.

Here’s a List of Do’s and Do Nots as Lucknow Imposes Section 163

  1. Public gatherings: Ban on gatherings of five or more people, processions, and demonstrations in public spaces.
  2. Loudspeakers: Prohibited at religious places between 10 PM and 6 AM.
  3. Protests: Permitted only at Eco Garden; protests elsewhere are banned.
  4. Security measures: Ban on drones near high-security zones and important government offices.
  5. Construction materials: Ban on collecting bricks and stones on rooftops to prevent potential misuse.

What is Section 163 (formerly Section 144)?

Section 163, previously known as Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), empowers local authorities to prohibit large assemblies that might pose a threat to public peace. The regulation can stay in force for up to two months, with possible extensions for an additional two months, up to a maximum of six months. Once the situation normalizes, the restrictions may be lifted.

These measures are part of the district administration's efforts to ensure a peaceful and secure environment during the upcoming festive season.
