Tamil Nadu: BJP, AIADMK Leaders Hacked To Death In Less Than 24 Hours

Chennai: Two opposition leaders in Tamil Nadu - one from the BJP and the other from the AIADMK - were brutally hacked to death in less than 24 hours leading to a massive political outrage in the Southern state. Expressing shock over the incidents, the Opposition leaders slammed the DMK-led state government over the law-and-order situation alleging that no one is safe in the state. Following the incident, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the AIADMK workers also staged a massive protest over the brutal killing of the two leaders.

As per the reports, while a BJP worker was killed on Saturday night in Sivagangai, the AIADMK worker was murdered in the Cuddalore area, close to the Puducherry border.

According to the police sources, a BJP worker, identified as Selvakumar, who was the district secretary of the party in Sivagangai, was hacked to death by a gang on Saturday night, while he was on his way home on his two-wheeler. He was the owner of a brick kiln in the same area from where he was returning to his home.

Opposition Leaders Slam DMK Government in Tamil Nadu

It is being claimed that a group of individuals armed with weapons attacked him when he was on his two-wheeler and fled after committing the crime.

In another similar incident, an AIADMK worker was hacked to death in the Cuddalore area, close to the Puducherry border. The victim, identified as Padmanabhan, a resident of Thirupapuliyur, was killed while he was heading towards Bagur village.

Reportedly Padmanabhan was surrounded by some unidentifiable individuals and was killed after a violent altercation between them. A senior police official of the Bahour Police Station said that two persons named Murali and Sridhar from the Navaneetha Nagar area of ​​the Cuddalore district have been detained for questioning and further legal action is being taken.

CM Is Running Political Drama, Says Annamalai

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai slammed the MK Stalin-led state government over the incident, saying, “Anti-social elements have no fear of the government or the police. The chief minister, who has the police under his control, is running a political drama.”

AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami lashed out at the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government over the law and order situation, saying that there is no security for anyone in the state alleging that not a day goes by without murders taking place in Tamil Nadu. "In Tamil Nadu, there is no security for anyone--from political party leaders to common women. The DMK is in power," Palaniswami said.

Attacking the DMK government in the state, Palaniswami said murders and robberies are taking place every day, adding that there have been 595 murders since January.

"Law and order in Tamil Nadu is completely broken. Murders and robberies are taking place every day. Not a day goes by without murders taking place in Tamil Nadu. There have been 595 murders since January," Palaniswami said.
