Telangana Rains: State Announces Rs 5 Crore Assistance for Flood-Hit Districts

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced an immediate relief package of Rs 5 crore for the flood-affected districts of Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahbubabad, and Suryapet on Monday. In addition, CM Reddy declared an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in the floods. He also assured that the compensation for the loss of livestock, including cattle, goats, and sheep, would be increased.
State Government to Send Flood Damage Report to Centre
The Chief Minister directed state authorities to respond promptly to the damage inflicted on public infrastructure and properties. According to CMO, Telangana government will submit a detailed report on the flood damages to the central government shortly. CM Reddy also plans to write to the Union government, seeking immediate assistance and urging them to declare the floods as a national calamity.
Officials on High Alert
During a review of the relief operations in the rain-affected areas, CM Reddy instructed officials to remain on high alert, particularly in regions where heavy rainfall is predicted. He asked officials to establish call centers to handle emergency situations and directed to setup a system at the Command Control Center to manage the crisis. Additionally, CM Reddy asked the Police Commissioners of Greater Hyderabad to address traffic issues during heavy rains and urged officials to prioritize the repair of damaged roads and the resolution of power outages.
PM Appreciates Telangana Government's Efforts
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with CM Reddy to assess the flood situation in the state. The Chief Minister briefed the Prime Minister about the severe impact of heavy rains, particularly in the Khammam district, which suffered significant damage. PM Modi also appreciated the state government's proactive measures to prevent loss of life and assured that helicopters would be deployed for emergency services if needed.
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several districts, including Nirmal, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, and Kamareddy, with thunderstorms and gusty winds expected in many areas over the next 24 hours.
