North 24 Parganas: In an another biggest newsbreak of the day after the on-duty Enforcement Directorate officials were attacked by allegedly TMC-linked goons in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas, Republic brings out exclusive details exposing the links between TMC leader Jyotipriya Mallick and another Trinamool Congress leader Shah Jahan Sheikh. A team of the central probe agency investigative an alleged ration distribution scam was attacked in Sandeshkhali on Friday when the team had gone to raid Shah Jahan Sheikh's residence in connection with the alleged scam. The goons that launched an attack on the ED officials are reportedly close aides of Shah Jahan. A ‘secret letter’ recovered by CRPF from Jyotipriya Mallick has established a clear linked between the two.

On October 27, 2023, ED arrested the minister in-charge of Forest Affairs and Non-Conventional and Renewable Energy Jyotipriya Mallick in connection with the multi-crore ration distribution scam. He was accused of fake paddy procurement and siphoning off PDS ration to the open market.

Crucial details emerging from the ED top sources inform that during judicial custody after the arrest, Jyotipriya Mallick was admitted to SSKM hospital on medical grounds. On the direction of Special Court, CCTV cameras were installed inside his hospital room. Subsequently the Minister challenged the order before honourable High Court which directed to remove CCTV cameras from the room and asked to deploy CRPF personnel to continue monitoring.

On December 16, 2023, CRPF personnel deployed at Mallick’s room recovered the hand-written secret note from the Bengal Minister. He wanted to handover this note to his daughter. Top sources confirmed that the secret letter had some instructions for the daughter to move/conceal proceeds of crime in possession of few key people. CRPF later handed over this note to Enforcement Directorate officials. Jyotipriya Mallick had also named Shah Jahan Sheikh in the secret note. ED suspects Shah Jahan Sheikh is in possession of large amount of proceeds of crime, as per sources.

TMC leader Shah Jahan Sheikh is accused of several anti-social incidents in North 24 Parganas' Sandeshkhali area. Despite that, he was time and again saved by Jyotipriya Mallick, as per the sources close to the probe agency.

Another name that has surfaced from the secret letter is Sankar Addhya, the former chairman of Bongaon Municipality. Beside the evidences that indicated Sankar Addhya being the beneficiary of proceeds of crime in the alleged scam, it was also suspected that there are FFMC, which were used to deposit and transfer PoC generated through PDS scam. A large amount of cash was deposited in such FFMCs and the same was converted into foreign currency through fake/forged documentations.
