Two Girls Found Hanging from Tree in UP's Farrukhabad; Police Suspect Suicide
According to the Farrukhabad police, there were no immediate signs of foul play at the scene, and no suicide note was found.
Farrukhabad: The bodies of two Dalit girls, including a minor, were discovered in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad district on Tuesday morning. The girls, aged 18 and 15, were found hanging from a tree, leading the police to suspect that they may have taken their own lives.
No Sign of Foul Play, Police Suspect Suicide
According to the Farrukhabad police, there were no immediate signs of foul play at the scene, and no suicide note was found. “The full details will only be known after the postmortem report,” said Alok Priyadarshi, Superintendent of Police, Farrukhabad. The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
A cell phone was recovered near the tree where the girls were found, along with a SIM card found in the clothing of one of the girls. The police have sent both for analysis to gather more information about the events leading up to their deaths.
Families Demands Thorough Investigation
The girls’ families, who are farmers, have requested a thorough investigation into the reasons behind their deaths. According to the police, the girls were close friends and lived in the same village. On Monday evening, they visited the home of one of the girls' aunts. When they did not return home later that night, their families assumed they had stayed at a nearby temple where a religious event, or "jagran," was taking place on the night of Janmashtami.
However, when other villagers returned from the temple and the girls were still missing, their parents began searching for them. The following morning, a villager spotted their bodies and alerted both the families and the police, who quickly arrived at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing as the authorities await the postmortem results to provide more clarity on the case.
