The first round of talks between the West Bengal government and the protesting junior doctors ended on Monday night to address the RG Kar impasse.
Kolkata: The first round of talks between the West Bengal government and the protesting junior doctors ended on Monday night to address the RG Kar impasse after nearly two hours of intense discussion at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee 's residence. However, it took an additional two-and-a-half hours to finalise the minutes of the meeting.
A group of 35 junior doctors arrived at Banerjee's Kalighat residence at 6:20 p.m., and the talks began around 6:50 p.m. The meeting concluded at approximately 9 p.m., with both sides then working on documenting the discussions. The doctors were seen leaving the residence around 11:30 p.m.
During the meeting, the junior doctors submitted a memorandum outlining their demands to the Chief Minister. The details of the discussion and the outcome of the meeting are still awaited, and the next steps are expected to be discussed soon.
The talks come in response to an ongoing impasse at RG Kar Medical College, where junior doctors have been protesting over issues related to working conditions and infrastructure. The strike has severely affected medical services at the hospital, leading to public outcry and increasing pressure on the state government to find a resolution.
