Two Special Operations Group jawans injured by Maoist-planted improvised explosive device in Odisha
The two Special Operations Group (SOG) jawans, while injured, are not in any immediate danger and have been taken to nearby healthcare facilities for treatment.
Bhubaneswar: On Sunday, during the course of a combing operation in Odisha's Kandhamal district, two jawans from the Special Operations Group were injured when an improvised explosive device planted by Maoists was set off. According to an officer quoted by PTI, the IED was set off after one of the jawans accidentally made contact with it.
“The explosion took place at around 10 am in the forest area under Tumudibandh police station limits in the district while a combing operation by the SOG jawans was underway in the area,” Kandhamal SP Suvendu Kumar Patra was quoted by PTI as saying.
While two of the jawans sustained injuries as a result of the explosion, with one injuring their hand and another their eye, neither of them is in danger of succumbing to their wounds and one of them has been shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for further treatment. The other, having sustained injuries to their hand, has been shifted to the Kandhamal district headquarters hospital after receiving first aid.
