Kannauj: In a heartbreaking incident, a 20-year-old girl tried to take her life after allegedly being raped by her neighbour in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh.
The victim is undergoing treatment in a goverment hospital and is out of danger; the accused has been arrested by the police.
The police had received information on July 11 that a woman was admitted to the Government Medical College in Kannauj after consuming bathroom cleaner.
On reaching the spot with a female DSP leading team, the woman's statement was recorded.
A complaint was filed by the victim's family about allegedly being raped by a man from her own village on July 9; the victim then tried to kill herself on July 10 because she feared the reaction of the society.
Acting on the complaint, a case was registered; the accused has been arrested and further legal action is underway.
The woman, under Thatia Police Station jurisdiction, was raped by her neighbour when she was alone a home.
In another news, a woman staying in a Divyang school in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district was allegedly gang-raped by three persons, including the school's president, police said on Friday.
The victim, a 26-year-old mentally-challenged woman, was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped in April and has been missing since, they said.
School president Rajesh Ratnakar, former guard Ram Kailash, and Amrita, who also worked at the school, were arrested for the gang rape on Thursday.
The incident happened at Narendrapur village under Haidergarh police station area of the district, they said.
