Uttarakhand Braces For Intense Rainfall, CM Dhami Orders Officials To Remain Vigilant

Uttarakhand CM Dhami reviewed the intense downpour situation in various areas of the state at the State Disaster Operation Centre in Dehradun.

Dehradun: Amidst heavy rainfall warning, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday reviewed the intense downpour situation in various areas of the state at the State Disaster Operation Centre in Dehradun's IT Park. 

"Chief Minister Dhami enquired about the condition of rain, roads, drinking water, electricity supply and other information from the District Magistrates," an official statement issued by the Uttarakhand Chief Minister's office read. 

The Chief Minister directed all the district magistrates to keep people in safe places from areas affected by heavy rains and landslides.

Don't Go Near River Banks, Uttarakhand CM Urges Public

"Chief Minister Dhami said that in view of the heavy rains, adequate arrangements of food and milk for children should be ensured, along with the arrangements of accommodations for devotees and travellers. CM Dhami instructed all the district magistrates to keep all the officers in alert mode at all times and enquired about the condition of water logging while issuing directions for better drainage arrangements,” the release read. 

He also asked the officials to warn the people living near river banks and other such areas about rising water levels in the rivers. The Chief Minister instructed Secretary Disaster Management Vinod Kumar Suman to keep a constant watch on the condition of heavy rains in every district.

The India Meteorological Department issued a warning on Thursday for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand over the next three days. According to the IMD, Uttarakhand is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall from September 12 to 14, with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas. Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are also likely to experience heavy rainfall during this period.
