Banaskantha:  Heavy rainfall in the Ambaji area of Banaskantha district led to waterlogging on Sunday, disrupting daily life and causing inconvenience for commuters.

The persistent rainfall created near-flood conditions in the area, leaving many vehicles partially submerged in the rising waters.

Heavy rains also lashed Vadodara city in Gujarat , flooding low-lying areas and causing the Vishwamitri River's water levels to rise, officials reported on Sunday evening. The city recorded 76 mm of rainfall in just two hours, leading to waterlogging in various locations and disrupting daily life.

As Vadodara continues to receive heavy rainfall, water levels in the Ajwa reservoir and Vishwamitri river have registered a sharp rise. However, Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has decided not to release any water from the reservoir into the river, a decision which has been welcomed by local residents.

Since Friday night, the Ajwa reservoir has been accumulating runoff from various areas in Vadodara and Panchmahal districts, in addition to receiving intermittent rainfall in the days leading up to it.

VMC officials said that they are actively monitoring the situation amid ongoing rainfall.

“By Saturday afternoon, the water level in the Ajwa reservoir increased to 212.20 feet by 6 PM, up from 212.05 feet at noon. Vishwamitri River rose from 16.4 feet at noon on Friday to 17.25 feet by 6 PM. Currently, there is no discharge from the Ajwa reservoir into the river,” officials said.

The latest bulletin from the IMD mentioned that most of Gujarat is expected to remain dry for the first three days of Navratri , with the exception of some districts in South Gujarat. From October 3-5, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are anticipated in isolated areas, including Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, as well as Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli. This means that Garba festivities in other parts of Gujarat can continue without interruption, as dry weather is expected to prevail.
