West Bengal: 2 cops killed, 3 injured after car crashes into stationary patrolling van in Howrah

An official said that the culprit who rammed the Howrah city-bound vehicle into the rear of the police patrolling van fled the spot, the officer said.

Kolkata: At least two policemen, including a sub-inspector, were killed and three sustained injuries after a speeding vehicle crashed into their stationary patrolling van in West Bengal’s Howrah district on Thursday.

As per the police, the incident took place on National Highway 16 in Barunda area early morning. 

An official said that the culprit who rammed the Howrah city-bound vehicle into the rear of the police patrolling van fled the spot, the officer said.

The deceased have been identified as Sub-Inspector Sujoy Das (45) and home guard Palash Samanta (31) were declared brought dead.

Meanwhile, the three injured as driver Abu Bakar (28), home guards Sukhdeb Biswas (25) and Alok Bar (26) were admitted to local hospital better treatment.

ADG and IGP (South Bengal) Siddhi Nath Gupta along with Howrah (Rural) SP Swati Bhangalia said the investigations are underway and the officials are on to nab the vehicle and the driver.
