Kamlesh Thakur, the wife of Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu made her political debut in the bypolls and defeated her BJP counterpart in Dehra.

Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu's wife, Kamlesh Thakur, who has just won the Dehra Assembly seat, was born in the Nalsooha village in Dehra subdivision of the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh on April 2, 1970. 

Speaking about her educational qualifications, Kamlesh Thakur did her Masters in Political Science from Chandigarh Government College; the politician also holds a PG Diploma in Computer Application.

Kamlesh Thakur had a keen interest in politics and for the last two decades, she has been a member of the the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee.

Apart from being into politics, Sukhu's wife also has an inclination towards social work and has continued to work in the field of women empowerment.

Mother of two daughters, Kamlesh Thakur married Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on June 11, 1988; her husband, the HP CM was not in favour of her contesting the assembly bypolls but her candidature was announced after the party high command insisted.

Kamlesh Thakur Aces Political Debut, Wins Dehra Assembly Seat

Kamlesh Thakur, has won the assembly by-election from the Dehra constituency by defeating Hoshyar Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Kamlesh Thakur was leading by over 9,000 votes against Hoshyar Singh in the final round of counting on Saturday.

After winning the Dehra assembly by-polls, Kamlesh Thakur, said, "The party leaders and workers worked day and night for this day. I will give all credit to the people who stood by the party throughout. I am proud of the people of Dehra."

Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu On Wife's Victory

On his wife's victory, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhu said, “I had put in everything for the Dehra constituency. I want to congratulate Kamlesh Thakur for winning the seat.” 

He further added, "The reason for fielding my wife from Dehra was to make Congress enter Kangra and increase the MLAs in the valley from 9 to 10. All three seats are strongholds of BJP and we have won two of them. This is a big deal."
