Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, has announced his resignation and called for early assembly polls in the state
New Delhi: Chief Minister of New Delhi Arvind Kejriwal, who has been released on conditional bail by the Supreme Court in the Delhi Excise Policy Case, has announced his resignation and called for early assembly polls in the state.
"Two days later, I will resign as Chief Minister. I will not sit on that chair till the people announce their verdict. Elections in Delhi are months away. I got justice from the legal court, now I will get justice from the people's court. I will sit on the Chief Minister's chair only after the order of the people," he Delhi CM Kejriwal while announcing his resignation.
‘I Will Not Sit on That Chair Till…’: Kejriwal Calls for Early Elections
Arvind Kejriwal said that he would accept the chief minister's post only if people certify his honesty in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections. “We will go to the court of people to prove our innocence,” said Kejriwal.
He also demanded that the elections in the National Capital should be held in November this year along with the assembly polls in Maharashtra instead of February next year as per the schedule.
'They Thought They Would Break Our Party and Form a Government in Delhi': Kejriwal
Arvind Kejriwal has also claimed in his statement that the BJP wanted to break the party and form its government. He said they also wanted to destroy his morale but failed.
Kejriwal, mentioned why he chose not to resign during his time in jail, despite pressure from the Bhartiya Janta Party. “People asked me why I didn’t resign when I was in jail. The BJP demanded my resignation, but I didn’t step down because I wanted to save the country’s democracy,” he said.
"They thought they would break our party and form a government in Delhi after jailing me. But our party did not break. I did not resign from the jail because I wanted to protect the Constitution of India. I wanted to fail their formula. The SC asked the central government why a government cannot run from the jail. The SC proved that a government can run from jail." said Delhi CM Kejriwal
Kejriwal Was Granted Bail by SC
In a big relief, the Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal was granted bail by the Supreme Court in the Delhi Excise Policy Case after a period of almost six months. The corruption case in the excise policy scam was registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Bail Conditions by the Supreme Court
The bail by the Supreme Court was granted on certain conditions including that he shall not visit the Office of the Chief Minister and the Delhi Secretariat.
Kejriwal is also bound that he shall not sign official files unless it is required and necessary for obtaining clearance/approval of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
