Gandhinagar: Surya J, wife of a Gujarat cadre IAS officer Ranjeet Kumar, who had ‘eloped’ with her rumoured gangster boyfriend, returned home in Gandhinagar on Saturday.

However, after returning home, she consumed poison in the garden in front of her house and has now died by suicide.

Surya J, IAS Officer Ranjeet Kumar's wife had ‘eloped’ with her gangster boyfriend about nine months ago. It was on Saturday that Surya returned home to her husband in Gujarat's Gandhinagar.

She was not allowed to enter her house following orders from her husband; she consumed poison in a garden outside her house and then called the emergency services.

Surya J was undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital where she died a day later. The incident took place at Sector 19 in Gandhinagar.

Surya J, her boyfriend ‘High Court Maharaja’ and his aide Senthil Kumar were accused in two cases in Tamil Nadu; they had allegedly kidnapped a boy on July 11 over a monetary dispute with his mother.

The trio demanded a ransom of Rs 2 crore but the cops in Madurai managed to rescue him.

According to a leading daily, the police has also found a suicide note but the contents of the same have not been revealed.

Ranjeet Kumar, currently the Secretary of Gujarat Electricity Regulation Commission (GERC), has refused to take his estranged wife's body; the couple had separated a couple of years ago and were headed for a divorce.
