A recent survey conducted by Prezzo, a British restaurant chain, revealed that 86% of Gen Z faces “menu anxiety,” a feeling of stress and unease when they are confronted with a restaurant menu.
According to Fortune Magazine, the restaurant Prezzo tested more than 2,000 people about how they feel while they go out. The age group that showed the most ‘Menu Anxiety” was 18–24-year-old people, Gen Z, with a share of 34%. They also shared that they feel nervous when ordering and ask other people on the table to order. This is really a high figure compared to the average level of anxiety felt by the customers, with the whole average of people who stressed out while ordering standing at 21%.
"While most people look forward to dining out during the holiday season, we know—as our research shows—it can be stressful for some," said Dean Challenger, CEO of Prezzo.
Further, they said that the frequent occurrence of this fear was triggered by the increasingly exorbitant cost of a meal out. They also worry that they won’t find something they like on the menu or that they will regret what they have ordered.
