Mumbai Local Train Update: CSMT to Dadar Shift for 22 Fast Services on October 5
Mumbai's local train network introduces a new timetable starting October 5, shifting 22 fast services from CSMT to Dadar.
Mumbai Local Train Update: Starting October 5, a new rail timetable for local trains will be implemented, which focuses on running short-route trains and decongesting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). According to Central Railway (CR) authorities, the arrival and departure of 22 fast train services will be shifted to Dadar from CSMT. These trains will operate from Platform 11 at Dadar station.
“The whole idea is to cater to the public that works in Central Mumbai areas such as Dadar, Lower Parel, Prabhadevi, Worli and Parel where offices have come up,” said a CR official. “This will benefit commuters, as there will be more fast trains starting from Dadar. We have moved 24 train services on the slow line from Dadar to Parel.”
Since starting the new improved Parel station with a terminus facility, CR has been running 22 train services towards Thane, Kalyan and further north. The addition of 24 services will take this number to 46.
“We are glad that our suggestions to focus on Central Mumbai and halts for fast trains at Kalwa and Mumbra have been accepted by the rail authorities,” said Madhu Kotian, president of the Mumbai Rail Pravasi Sangh.
Currently, CR operates 66 services daily, ferrying 76,477 commuters on average according to the April-August 2024 data. This used to be 57,214 commuters in 2023-24.

Starting October 5, Mumbai's local train network will see a revamped timetable aimed at improving connectivity and reducing congestion at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). Mumbai Local Train Key Changes:
Extension of Services:
24 train services will now originate and terminate at Dadar, extending to Parel.
Six Thane-originating trains will be extended to Kalyan.

The new Platform 11 at Dadar will help decongest CSMT by relocating 11 pairs of fast services that previously originated or terminated there.
Revised Timings and Routes:
Nine services will operate with updated timings and train numbers.
Ten services will have revised originating or terminating stations.
Last Services:
The final train to Karjat (S1) will depart CSMT at 12:12 AM.
The last train to Kasara (N1) will leave CSMT at 12:08 AM.
New Halts for Fast Trains:
Additional stops will be added for fast local trains at Kalwa and Mumbra during peak hours:

CR officials have emphasized that these changes are designed to streamline operations and improve the overall commuter experience. With the new services and adjustments, the rail network aims to better accommodate the increasing number of daily passengers.
As CR expands its fleet, the introduction of two new AC rakes is expected to enhance the comfort and efficiency of local train services, which currently cater to an average of 76,477 commuters daily. This marks a notable increase from the previous year's figures, reflecting a growing demand for local train travel in Mumbai.
