The Behtar India Go Green City summits has now moved on to the capital city of India, Delhi. Recycling over 36,348.7 KGS of paper, Modern School managed to become the top performing school and hence hosted the summit. The Behtar India is an initiative that rewards schools for recycling most amount of paper.
The summit commenced with a keynote given by the Principal of Modern school, Dr. Vijay Dutta. He spoke about the efforts put in by the students and the teachers to reach this position. The principal then introduced a dance performance which was given by the students of the school. The anchor of the summit, Ms. Nayan Shukla, then took over the stage to address the issues of air pollution, water pollution, waste generation, waste mismanagement or sanitation which are the current challenges faced by the city of Delhi, thus setting the stage for the Behtar India Go Green City Summits panel discussion.
The panel discussed and shared their opinions over solutions of the challenges faced by Delhi and the steps that should be taken to counter these problems to make humari Dilli, a clean and healthy Dilli. The panel comprised of Naresh Kumar (Chairman, North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMDC)), Mr. Anshuman Verma (Chief Marketing & Digital Officer, DHFL Pramerica), Anshul Sharma (Co-founder – SEEDS), Pankaj Prasad (Mechanical Engineer and alumnus Delhi College of Engineering) and a special celebrity guest Atul Wassan (Cricketer).
The anchor then opened the floor for questions to the panelists where students showed great curiosity and involvement in understanding the importance of a sustainable environment.
After the discussion the stage was set for a special song performance by the students of Modern School followed by a dance performance by the students of Indraprastha International School which gave the message of ‘Swachta Jyot.’
The summit was an insightful event, bringing together students, corporates, and citizens to talk about the issues and discuss ideas to help build a sustainable environment. The impact of the summit could be gauged by the enthusiasm and dedication of the students towards understanding and acting on the most critical issue of environmental conservation.
