Students Of Dehradun Come Together To Address The City's Environmental Problems

The Behtar India Go Green City Summits chose its next destination as Dehradun. The campaign is an initiative that rewards school for recycling the most amount of paper. Welham Boys’ school, the top performing school became the hosts for the summit.

The Behtar India Go Green City Summits chose its next destination as Dehradun. The campaign is an initiative that rewards school for recycling the most amount of paper. Welham Boys’ school, the top performing school became the hosts for the summit.

The event commenced with a prayer by the students of Welham Boys’ School. The host, Ritika Jhanji Jagtiani took over the stage to welcome and address the crowd. She then invited the Principal of the host school, Ms. Gunmeet Bindra to give a special keynote. The boys of the school welcomed the crowd with a special dance performance. After taking over the stage Ritika spoke about the beauty of Dehradun and on the contrary, she also spoke about the rapid increase in the amount of trash this city produces. She shed some light on some of the challenges the city faces including indiscriminate cutting of trees, vehicular pollution and lack of waste management thus setting the stage for the Behtar India Go Green City Summits panel discussion. 

The panelists were Mr. Anshuman Verma (Chief Marketing and Digital Officer, DHFL Pramerica Life Insurance), Waterman Of India, Dr. Rajendra Singh, Dr. Ruchi Badola (Professor & Scientist, Department of Eco-development Planning and Participatory Management, Wildlife Institute of India), Mr. Vijay Jogdande (Municipal commissioner of Dehradun Nagar Nigam) and, Mr. Jubin Nautiyal (Voice behind the well known Humma song ).

The panel discussed and shared the possible solutions for the problems faced by the people of Dehradun and how they can make this city divine again. The panel also spoke about the Clean Ganga mission and about the issue of danger to aquatic life.The anchor then interacted with the students thus setting the stage for an interactive session with the panelists. The students questioned the panelists which generated the spirit of enthusiasm in them. 

The event also consisted of a student panel which included two of the Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards winners Siddharth Kanchustambam, who worked for effective waste management in Hyderabad and Chandigarh, Sai Arjun Shroff who worked on mosquito repellant plants in villages. The 'Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards' is an annual nationwide search to identify and recognize school students who have made a positive difference in their communities through volunteer community service. The other panelists were Abhay Singh Dhillon (School Captain), Chirag  Bhansal and  Dhruv Dariya from Welham Boys’ School.

The event concluded with a performance given by a well known vocalist  and a Welham Boys school alumni, Mr. Jubin Nautiyal. 

The Behtar India campaign is a unique social collaborative responsibility initiative that aims at bringing together schools students, corporates and citizens towards discussing the problems and solutions with an aim to build a sustainable environment and future for the country.
