This year, for the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja, Doctor’s Choice presented an unconventional venture at the Kashi Bose Lane Puja Club. For our visually impaired friends, we introduced the club’s theme notes and the description of the Goddess’s magnanimity in Braille for the first time in Kolkata. Advertisements have shown great creativity over the years, but none have been specifically designed for our visually impaired community. We offered VVIP passes to allow them to experience the puja through the eyes of their imagination. We provided lifetime memberships to 45 children from the Calcutta Blind School, Behala, and installed Braille boards throughout the puja pandal to enhance accessibility. A special zone was also created to ensure they did not feel overwhelmed by the surging crowds, allowing them to paint a picture within their mind’s vision. We were honored to welcome our brand ambassador, Sandipta Sen, beloved actor Arjun Chakraborty, and the current Minister of Women and Child Welfare, Dr. Sashi Panja. The theme of feminine power and kindness was beautifully highlighted by the gesture of having the mother idol’s divine third eye (chakkudan) painted by two young girl students from the Calcutta Blind School, alongside Minister Dr. Sashi Panja. This moment opened our eyes to the need for sensitivity and inclusive celebration. We are hopeful that our small venture will inspire greater events in the future, fostering a more understanding and compassionate society where individuals with disabilities can enjoy the festive spirit with as much fervor as anyone else.
