‘Facebook presents One India’ is a series which showcases stories of ordinary people coming together to impact the lives of many for the better. The Season 2 of One India revolves around the spirit of change, revolutionizing society using technology. This season is all about the stories that will reach and empower the communities.
This episode unfolds the story of ‘Help us Green,’ an organization based in Kanpur, which recycles floral waste into useful products. This unique idea became a roar once it set rolling. The mission to preserve the river Ganges and empower vernacular people by providing a means to earn their livelihood became a reality. The idea was to further use waste flowers, recycle them and use them in making flower cycled incense and vermicompost.
Today “PHOOL,” the FMCG brand sells a box of incense stick every minute. With a motive to preserve The Ganges through livelihood, this organization have been successful in providing livelihood to at least 173 women. “Phool” sells products which are 100% organic and has become a successful venture by dealing online through their site, ‘www.helpusgreen.com.’
“There’s a Czech friend of mine who has visited India and he had come down to Kanpur just to see how Indians live. So, I took him to The Ganges ghat and luckily or unluckily it was Makar Sankranti, an Indian festival and we started talking about why the river is so polluted and then he said, “If this river is so religious, why don’t you clean it?” And I laughed saying this is ‘The Ganges’, The ‘India’ How can anyone clean it? There’s no starting point. The moment I said this a near by temple dumped in about a truckload of flowers in the water.
