The box office hit which also got rave reviews, 'Andhadhun', won the Best Film Award at the Republic-Open Magazine Achievers Awards 2019 on Monday.
The Cinema category Achievers Award comprised of nominees that have evoked emotions and depicted realism in day-to-day life. The award was given by sector head of Spencer's Retail Shaswat Goenka and author Amish Tripathi. The award was collected by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures COO Ajit Andhare.
After taking receiving the award, Andhare said:
"The box office success of 'Andhadhun' is a tell-tale sign that the only limitation to the quality of Indian cinema is the makers' imagination. I feel privileged to be on the platform to receive this honour I am thankful to Open and Republic for choosing our film. I heard Dr Prasad talk about new India earlier. At Viacom, we are always looking for stories which are actually redefining India. To find so much love for quirky, dark, off centre film and to find it become the talk of the country when mainstream films are struggling in the box office. I think it is a clear sign of changing India. I am thankful to the entire team of 'Andhadhun'."
'Andhadhun' revolves around the story of Akash (Ayushmann Khurrana) who gets tangled in the cobwebs of karma. Akash, a pianist, meets Sophie (Radhika Apte) through sheer fate after which the two become friends. She turns into his lady luck helping him find a job at her father's restaurant. Everything goes well between the duo until Akash bumps into Pramod Singh (Anil Dhawan). Tabu essays the role of Simi, Pramod Singh's wife.
