Akash Ambani, Director at Indian telecom giant Reliance Jio, won the Disruptor award at the Republic-Open Magazine Achievers Awards 2019 on Monday.

On receiving the award that honours those with unconventional thinking who have revolutionized the way things work, Akash Ambani spoke about what the term 'disruptor' brings to his mind, namely the Steve Jobs-esque 'someone who comes in and breaks things' definition. He contrasts, however, that "at Reliance Jio we've focused on what can bring societal value. That's our mission and the consumer will be at the forefront of it."

Akash Ambani went on to speak about what's on Jio's agenda as it prepares to turn three-years-old in September this year. The company that has utterly shaken up the country's mobile telephony space will continue to do more and more of the same, it's Director put forth: "We hope to bring you more and more services, and more and more opportunities for Indians."

He also said that the award is actually dedicated to his father Mukesh Ambani whose vision and motivation are the driving force behind the group's efforts, and thanked the employees at Reliance Jio for working diligently towards their mission:

Finally, on being asked about the current reach of Reliance Jio by Republic TV's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, Akash Ambani revealed that last he had checked, it was 285 million and growing.

The Achievers Awards recognize people whose hard work, ability, endeavours and perseverance have brought glory to the country, and the Disruptor award is an ode to the entrepreneurs whose ventures haven't just made massive marks, but have also impacted existing iconic and well-entrenched brands - as Reliance Jio has well and truly accomplished.
