After successfully crafting and organizing the 1st edition of OTTV Mumbai, Dveo Media organized the 2nd edition of OTTV Kids and Animation summit, scheduled on 22nd November 2018 at Taj Lands’ End, Bandra, Mumbai. OTTV Kids and Animation Summit 2018 was all about exploring the potential of kids entertainment in the digital video space dominated by Over-The-Top (OTT) players. The occasion attracted an attendance of 150 executives ranging from entertainment to technological industries.

This summit comes at a time where new avenues are opening up for local IPs on local and international digital video platforms while Animation Studios are initiating new and exciting creative ventures. A special keynote was given by Anu Sikka (SVP, Content Head, Kids Cluster, Viacom 18). She discussed the local IP creation journey of the Indian kids entertainment category. Additionally, she spoke about how animation has come a long way since the time of Doordarshan cartoons. This was followed by a presentation about understanding kids and their TV viewing habits given by Head of Partnerships at BARC India, Mr. Elbert Dsilva.

‘The making of homegrown characters global’ was the topic of the first panel discussion. The panelists were Ashish Kulkarni (Founder - PunnaryugArtvision), Kishor Srivastav (Head, Content Alliance and Partnerships SAARC - Toonz Media Group), Munjal Shroff (Director & COO - Graphiti Multimedia), Mr. Ronojoy Chakraborthy (Head of Programming - Sony Yay), Srinivas Chilakalapudi (Chief Strategy Officer - Green Gold Animation) and the panel was moderated by Deepak Ramsurrun, CEO - Dveo Media/ Founder of OTTv Summits. After the panel discussion, Jaheer Abbas, Sr. Director, India and SE Asia, Limelight Networks gave a presentation about his company Limelight Networks and what they do.

The second-panel discussion was about how Little Singham is making it Big. The panel included Uttam Pal Singh (Head of Content - Discovery kids Network), Tejonidhi Bhandare (COO - Reliance Animation) and Dr. Kushal Sanghvi (Vice Chairman of India and South Asia - ICOM Global). This panel was moderated by Soumini S Paul (VP Artist Aloud, Kids Original Content - Hungama). Mr. Gaurav Mallawat, Head solutions Engineering (India), Cloudflare gave a presentation post the discussion.

The third panel discussed how homegrown IPs are becoming the pathway to international audiences. This panel had Srinivas Chilakalapudi (Chief Strategy Officer - Green Gold Animation), Soumini S Paul (VP Artist Aloud, Kids Original Content - Hungama) and Munjal Shroff (Director & COO - Graphiti Animation) and the moderator was Anish Patel (CEO - HopMotion Animation).

Then Mr. Parth Shah, Director - Centroid India presented his views on bringing animated characters to life through motion Capture by. After the presentation, the stage was all set for the fourth-panel discussion about creating interactive and engaging experiences for kids through gaming where the panelists were Pranab Punj (Chief Marketing Officer - Kinsane Entertainment), Ninad Chhaya (Co-founder & COO - GoPhygital | WITS Interactive), Dina D'Souza (VP sales - Pokkt) and Karna Krishnan (Business Head - Zapak Digital Entertainment). The moderator of the panel was Deepak Ramsurrun (CEO - Dveo Media/ Founder of OTTv Summits).

Further Nitin Kalra (Director at Animation International India) presented his views on the licensing of kids content. The stage was then opened for the fifth-panel discussion of the day which was about the challenge of crafting stories to groom, educate and entertain and the panelists were Vivek Shukla (Animation Screenwriter/ Founder - Ka Kha Gaa), Pooja Lulla (Children's Author, Lyricist, and Screenwriter), Saurabh Verma (Filmmaker/ Chief Marketing Officer - INOX Leisure) and Mona Singh (Head - Business Development & Marketing - Sesame Workshop India) and the panel was moderated by Deepa Singh (Content & Creative Strategist - OTT & Media Platforms).

The event was indeed an occasion to gain knowledge from the experts and trendsetters in the Kids Entertainment & Animation industry in India and other dynamic markets. It also gave opportunities to interact, network and access to new trends in the market which will provide new experiences to the customers.

India’s over-the-top (OTT) digital market is anticipated to grow to US$5 billion by 2023 with on-demand platforms such as Amazon Prime gaining popularity in the country, according to industry research. Insight from Boston Consulting Group (BCG) shows that the American streaming giants have invested more in creating content for the country’s OTT consumers than other Indian platforms.

OTT is surely the focal point even in the animation sector today. Given the power and reach it has gained in India and around the world, the OTT players are expecting a major boom in the near future
