A country where women feel safe is a country on the road to development. JK Tyre and Western India Automobile Association (WIAA) sensed the need of the hour and provided women the platform to get behind the wheel through the 5th edition of Women’s Rally to the Valley. Every year, a new women related theme is chosen. The theme for this year was ‘Women’s safety.’

On 4th April, over 600 women registered to participate in the rally. During the driver’s briefing participants were instructed on rally regulations and road safety rules that were to be followed while driving from Mumbai to Aamby Valley. From the team members to the officials, the rally comprised an all-women crew.

As dawn struck on 7th April, participants lined up with their cars at Worli, the starting point of the rally. Amruta Fadnavis flagged off the rally and interacted with the organizers and participants. Participants reinforced the theme through their attire and bedecked cars. Cars adorned messages on topics like consent, road safety rules, equality and national integrity. From teams donning sarees with road signs to teams dressed as the armed forces, participants left no stone unturned to get their message across.

Teams of 4 members divided the roles of driver, navigator, time calculator and supporter among themselves and set out for the rally. A Time Speed Distance (TSD) rally meant that participants halted at multiple time checkpoints.

After completing 150Km, they arrived at their destination, Aamby Valley. Participants rejuvenated at the resort and shared their rally experience. From novice rally drivers to veterans, teams enjoyed the process from planning to arriving at the finishing point. As the Women’s Rally to the Valley is a TSD rally, it also taught the participants patience, control and co-ordination with team members.

To culminate the rally, on 10th April, participants were given a grand welcome at Sahara Star hotel, the venue for the awards ceremony. While some teams took home awards, each participant went home with renewed confidence in themselves as drivers. JK Tyre has always been a front- runner in providing a platform for women in motorsport. Through the Women’s Rally to the Valley, it aims at empowering more women to get behind the wheel, break the silence and raise their voice for women’s safety in the country.
