“Every time I saw other parents running to buy toys for their kid, it made me yearn for the day when we can do the same for Yadnesh. For now, my sister, brother-in-law and I spend all our money trying to keep him alive.”

Yadnesh’s uncle worriedly tells us about how Yadnesh’s medical condition continues to test them everyday. Yadnesh was diagnosed with Thalassemia when he was 3 months old. His parents have spent a hefty amount of Rs 10,00,000 for his countless blood transfusions and medications so far.

“I miss the sound of his excited screams greeting me every time I came down to visit my sister. He didn’t need much to be amused, he loved company and would constantly giggle at any given opportunity. I’ve spent countless nights singing lullabies to him while trying my hardest to put him to sleep. Now, I sit around, hoping to see him wake up without struggling to breathe.”

His blood transfusions proved useful until his symptoms began to worsen. He was breathless, he felt constant fatigue, his suffocation would effectively prevent him from being able to consume food at times. He was an active kid, they were not used to seeing him not running around. When he increasingly grew pale, they began worrying incessantly.

“With this health continuing to worsen, we rushed him to Apollo Hospitals in Chennai. His medical condition continued to deteriorate and it was painful to watch him suffer. After 48 hours, the doctor informed us that he needs a bone marrow transplant as soon as possible, in order to be able to survive. My sister and brother-in-law are both uneducated, they still don’t even know what it is that their son is going through.”

Having spent every penny from their savings, they don’t quite have any avenue to resort to. They can barely make ends meet and survive on two meals a day to save money for Yadnesh’s daily medication. Yadnesh’s father brings home a measly Rs 10,000 a month. They live with their mother-in-law. With Yadnesh’s mother having to quit her job to take care of Yadnesh, their family has no other means of income.

The family has started a fundraiser to gather Rs. 25,00,000. Any contribution from your side will help them continue their fight to save their child.
