Shortly after the Karnataka Governor invited the BJP's BS Yeddyurappa to form a government in the state and gave him fifteen days to prove his strength on the floor of the house, the Congress party moved to have the Supreme Court intercede in the matter.

In a dramatic late-night development, a representation of the Congress has taken its petition to the Supreme Court registrar and is seeking to proceed from there to the Chief Justice of India (CJI) -- the same CJI it has been seeking to impeach.

Republic TV has accessed a copy of the Congress' petition, in which the petitioners are Karnataka Congress chief G Parameshwara and JD(S) chief HD Kumaraswamy who is the CM candidate of the JD(S)-Congress alliance.

The Congress' prayer is as follows:

(a) That the Supreme Court passes an appropriate order declaring that the action fo the Karnataka Governor inviting Yeddyurappa to form the government on May 17 (Thursday) as unconstitutional, arbitrary, illegal, void-ab-initio and violative of Article 14 of the Constitution of India and accordingly quash the same.

(b) Pass an appropriate order to the Governor to invite the alliance of the JD(S)-INC which has the support of more than 112 MLAs to form the Government under the leadership of HD Kumaraswamy.

As Yeddyurappa was being invited, the Congress and JD(S) were shifting their MLAs to resorts in order to 'protect' them from the BJP and its alleged bribe offers, which Kumaraswamy said comprised of 'Rs 100 crores' and cabinet berths.

The Congress' Randeep Surjewala and Abhishek Manu Singhvi also tweeted on the matter:
