In a massive political expose in the run-up to the Karnataka Assembly elections 2018, Republic TV has accessed a 4-page bribe ledger, a bribe diary that could put Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on the spot. The ledger was recovered at the resort, which the Income Tax officials raided, the same Badami resort, wherein the Congress leaders were staying.
The diary has details of the money that was allegedly paid to various towns, cities in and around Siddaramaiah’s constituency Badami, the diary even mentions the names of the booths where payments were made. As per the records in the diary, the total payments allegedly made were to the tune of Rs 1.6 Crore.
As per the diary entries, RB Timmapur, Karnataka’s excise minister was allegedly paid Rs 5 lakh while KPCC working president SR Patil’s staff was paid Rs 1.1 lakh.
As per I-T department sources, the diary was found in a bag carried by KPCC General Secretary Parasmal Jain’s aide and it was allegedly maintained by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s election management team.
The diary also exposes the violation of the election code of conduct because as per the election guidelines every candidate can only spend Rs 28 lakh over campaigning, which includes campaigning fund for print and TV ads and for any other kinds of campaigning activity.
On Monday night, the Investigation Wing of the Income-tax department had carried out an operation in Karnataka's Badami district.
As per reports, some cash was being distributed at Hotel Krishna Heritage Resort in Badami. One person carrying a large amount of cash was apprehended and subsequently, various rooms in the hotel were searched. It is also learned that a large amount of cash, around Rs 20 lakh was seized along with highly incriminating documents which indicated at huge cash distribution in Badami.
During the raid at the Resort, KPCC working president SR Patil, MLC CM Ibrahim and other leaders were also present at the site.
