Omar Abdullah is winning the internet with his commentary on Karnataka cliffhanger

With both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staking claim to form government in the state of Karnataka, it seems former Jammu-Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is having the time of his life doing commentary about the cliffhanger in the southern state.

With both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staking claim to form government in the state of Karnataka, it seems former Jammu-Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is having the time of his life doing commentary about the cliffhanger in the southern state.

Soon after the early leads started to show up, Abdullah took to Twitter to do his tongue-and-cheek commentary.

As the early trends depicted BJP surging ahead in Karnataka, Omar tweeted, “Et tu, Karnataka?”

The tweet was to liken the defeat of Congress in Karnataka as a betrayal of sorts. Omar’s tweet was inspired by an iconic dialogue in a Shakespearean play, ‘Julius Caesar’. In the play, the protagonist, Julius Caesar, was killed and the attack was led by his dear friend Brutus, who stabbed him in the back. The particular scene in the play gave birth to the phrase ‘to stab in the back’ which literally means ‘to be betrayed’ as Caesar was betrayed by none other than his own dear friend.

In his next tweet, he took an apparent dig at the Congress President, Rahul Gandhi, hinting his defence for the defeat would be blasted EVMs.

He next tweeted when a verdict which was completely in the favour of BJP beginning to shift away from it as the Congress started to woo the JD (S) to stitch an alliance to reach the magic number.

“It’s not over till someone sings Karnataka,” he wrote taking inspiration from the proverb “It ain't over till the fat lady sings,” which means that one should not presume to know the outcome of an event which is still in progress, clearly going with the current situation in Karnataka.

In his next tweet, he backed the Congress in cobbling up an alliance with the JD (S) saying if the BJP was in the grand old party’s place, it would have done the same thing. He backed his claim in the next tweet he substantiated his claim and said even the BJP had stitched these kind of alliances in other states.

Omar then posted a pretty interesting tweet, saying, “Right now I wish I owned a resort around Bangalore somewhere”. His tweet was in reference to a past incident when 42 Congress MLAs from Gujarat were huddled in a Bengaluru resort to avoid defection by any MLA to the BJP ahead of the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls.

So, it is possible that Omar must have directed its tweet at the both the Congress and the BJP, who need to prove majority, if invited to form government by the Karnataka Governor.

His series of tweets on the Karnataka verdict day, when the state is witnessing high drama, depict that regardless the party who gets to form the government in the southern state, Omar Abdullah has definitely had a field day on Twitter
