Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata
Regarded as one of the most prominent art galleries in India, the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata is famous for paintings like Girl with a Pitcher and A Winter's Evening by Rabindra Nath Tagore.
The Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata was established in 1933. The academy is a mix of colonial and contemporary styles, it is a perfect blend of all art forms. Kolkata’s Academy of Fine Arts displays one of the finest traditional school paintings.
Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC)
One of the latest in the block, this opulent multi-disciplinary cultural space in Bandra-Kurla Complex is designed to honour and promote Indian arts on a large scale.
The Cultural Centre is home to three performing arts spaces: the majestic 2,000-seat Grand Theatre, the technologically advanced 250-seat Studio Theatre, and the dynamic 125-seat Cube.
It also features the Art House, a four-storey dedicated visual arts space built as per global museum standards to house a shifting array of exhibits and installations from the finest artistic talent across India and the world.
Spread across the Centre’s concourses is a captivating mix of public art by renowned Indian and global artists, including ‘Kamal Kunj’ – one of the largest Pichwai paintings in India.
Government Museum and Art Gallery, Chandigarh
The Government Museum and Art Gallery of Chandigarh was established in 1947. The space displays geometric forms and functional design. Said to be designed by French architect Le Corbusier, the gallery displays several artefacts, ancient sculptures, Pahari miniature paintings and contemporary artworks.
Government Museum, Chennai
The Government Museum located in Chennai was established in the year 185. It is the second oldest museum and art gallery in India. If you want to get a glimpse of paintings from the Rajput and Mughal eras along with modern paintings the National Art Gallery, which is a part of the museum, features them.
National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi
An initiative to promote art by the government of India, the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi was established in 1954. The gallery showcases famous paintings like The Smoking Donkey by Karl Antao, Frozen Porcupine and Man with Bouquet of Plastic Flower by Bhupen Khakhar.
