The holy month of Sawan has started, and according to the Hindu Panchang, the 22nd of July was designated as the first Somwar Vrat and ends on August 19. On this day, many devotees were seen fasting and offering cow's milk, dhatura, bel patra, bhang, and flowers to Lord Shiva in temples. According to mythology, offering bel patra to Lord Shiva is considered very favourable. Experts suggest that if done correctly, it can help fulfil one's wishes. Here's the explanation:

Why Bel Patra is offered to Lord Shiva?

As per experts and mythology suggestions, offering three connected leaves, grouped in sets of 3 to 11, on the Shivling during Sawan. For those seeking an early marriage, 108 bel patra should be used. It is important to wash the leaves thoroughly and ensure they are not fragrant or damaged with spots or cuts. When presenting the leaves to Lord Shiva, place the smooth side on the Shivling, and write "Om Namah Shivay" on the other side with kumkum or sandalwood, as this is considered auspicious.
