Breaking stereotypes, a 20-year-old Muslim woman is all set to become the first contestant to wear a hijab in the Miss England finals.
Determined to get the crown, Sara Iftekhar will walk on the ramp in the headscarf. Although many contestants have worn the hijab in the qualifying rounds of the beauty pageant, Sara will be the first one to wear it on the day of the finals.
Iftekhar is also a law student who has previously won the Miss Huddersfield and Yorkshire’s Miss Popularity round. In one of the interview rounds, the 20-year-old stated that everyone is beautiful in their own way, regardless of their weight, race, color or shape. This is not the first time, the student has donned a hijab, as she is quite a regular at wearing the traditional Muslim headscarf, as can be seen in her social media accounts. Although the picture has now been deleted, she had earlier shared a selfie of her saying that she cannot even comprehend how incredible she felt, when her name was being announced as a finalist in the Miss England Finals 2018.
Further, she thanked God by saying that it was such a memorable experience. Commenting on it further she revealed, that she is completely ecstatic to be one of the amazing girls in the top 50 chosen out of 22,000 women, and cannot wait to see where the journey takes her.
Reportedly, the 20-year-old also started her own business at the age of 16 and is also using the popularity she gained with beauty pageants in order to raise money for the charity, 'Beauty With Purpose'. The charity raises money for disabled children and teenagers and also the official Miss World Charity, that encourages all the applicants to raise money for the current social issues of the country. The finale is said to be held at Kelham Hall, Nottingham, where around 50 ladies will compete to win the crown, for 'Miss England'. The winner of the competition will then progress to the overall finals, and compete for the Miss world 2018 title, which will be held in Sanya, China.
