There are some important things to keep in mind while shaving to prevent redness and inflammation. You would think that regularly exfoliating, shaving in the direction hair grows or applying lubricant before shaving is the only important tip you need to follow. But in the long run, you need to be much more careful with your face.

You need to follow a shaving routine to have a fresh face and an irritation-free skin every time you come out after shaving. There are important tips you need to follow in order to ensure a clean and pain-free shave. Here are four important steps:

Prepare the skin

You need to warm the skin with a hot shower or a towel right before you shave. This will help smoothen your skin and open your pores which will result in a smoother shave. Apply pre-shave oil to prepare the hair and condition the skin for the blade. These important tips will prevent ingrown hairs and irritation.

Razor and badger brush

You might have heard that more blades give you a better shave. But if you properly prepare for the process, a 3 blade razor can do the job too. The main reason you may want to switch to fewer blades is that it reduces the number of blades that brush over your sensitive skin. Consider using a badger brush if you are shaving hairs that are older than a few days. Apply shaving cream on the brush and apply on your stubble in a circular motion. This will prep the hair for gentle shaving.

Shave

If you have prepared your skin for the shave with a warm shower, pre-shave oil with foam, you are all set for a clean shave without causing any irritation or redness. Adding unnecessary force will only irritate your skin, so use a firm grip. Lightly gliding the razor on your face will ensure a smooth cut. Lather again if necessary.

Aftershave

Your pores are opened and you need to close them to make your skin firm. After you shave, splash cold water on your face. This will help close the pores. After the cold water, apply a post-shave balm, which nourishes the skin with vitamins.
