Different people have different types of skin. It is essential for any individual to take care of their skin and maintain a skin care routine to ensure that the quality of the skin is top-notch. Being able to identify your skin type is the first important thing you need. There are a lot of skin types than just oily and dry. Your skin type also tends to change over the course of time.

How to identify your skin type correctly?

You can visit a dermatologist to identify your skin type or do that yourself. There are mainly 5 types of skin. These are normal, oily, dry, combination, and sensitive.

Normal skin

This is generally a well-balanced skin type. To know if you have normal skin, you can see that you have a hydrated and healthy skin. This also means that you don’t have to do too much work to maintain your skin. But you can’t completely ignore it either. Often use a cleanser for your skin.

Dry skin

Dry skin usually produces less sebum than normal skin. Gently pat a blotting paper on the different areas of your face. Hold the sheet up to the light to determine how much oil is visible. If the sheet picked up little to no oil, you most likely have dry skin. Take care of your dry skin by using a good moisturiser that keeps your skin hydrated.

Tip: Avoid using too much soap.

Oily skin

Unlike dry skin, oily skin produces excessive serum. Take a clean blotting sheet and press it against different areas of your face. If you can notice oil when you hold up the sheet to the light, you have oily skin. Oily skin tends to collect dirt, so make sure you wash twice a day.

Combination skin

To know if you have a combination skin, take a blotting sheet and press it against your face. If only your t-zone produces oily spots, you have a combination skin. Eat foods with fatty acids as they will help hydrate your skin.

Sensitive skin
