Exfoliation is the process of shedding or peeling of dead skin cells from the upper layer of your skin. Although it is a natural process, the process slows down as we age, like all-body processes. If our skin cells are not getting enough nutrition to function well, there may be breakouts in your skin which may make our skin look wrinkled and dull. An aesthetician from Wexford, Ireland said that to help the process of shedding and make the new skin look smoother, clear, radiant and younger it is necessary to exfoliate once in a week or a month. With the exhausting fast pace of our lives, it is impossible to visit a beautician every week. Hence, here are a few ways in which you can exfoliate your skin at home:
Salt is a natural exfoliant that removes dead skin and does not have any side effects. It has minerals which soften the skin and restore hydration. Mix a quarter cup salt and add half a cup of olive oil or coconut oil to make a thick paste. You can also add any essential oil of your choice.
Sugar contains a natural source of glycolic acid and alpha hydroxyl that can help the skin produce new skin cells. This also helps in smoothening and softening the skin. Mix half cup sugar with olive oil and apply the paste on your face. Massage in a circular motion and wash with warm water.
If you want a pampered spa treatment at home, you can use oatmeal. It works great on your face and your body. It has the ability to absorb excess oil from your skin which can be beneficial if you have acne. Make sure to avoid scratching or irritating the delicate areas. Mix oatmeal and honey, and apply the paste on your face. Massage and rinse with warm water.
Lemon juice has alpha hydroxyl acid which removes dead skin cells. Mix one cup of lemon juice, apple juice, grape juice, and sugarcane juice. Add sugar and mix it till it dissolves. Apply the mixture with cotton all over your face and wash it after 10 minutes.
Papaya is considered one of the best natural exfoliating ingredient which is easily available. Papaya contains enzyme papain which dissolves dead skin cells. Papain also heals fine lines and lightens age spots. Green papayas are mostly rich in papain. Mash the fruit in a smooth paste and apply it on your face evenly. Leave it for 15 minutes and wash it with warm water.
