Why does the Pushkar Festival attract over 200,000 visitors?
The festival is celebrated on the banks of Pushkar Lake, which makes the climate cooler. This is required in Rajasthan. The visitors also sit around the banks with some soothing music and a bonfire. There is a ritual of taking a small dip in the lake under the naturally lit sky with the full moon. The next thing that makes this festival amazing is the camel race. The festival starts with a camel race, music, and some exhibitions to follow. The festival has a very important value which attracts the Hindu pilgrims who attend the fairs to visit the temples and participate in holy rituals. The tourists take a walk to colourful exhibitions which sell camels, horses, cows, sheep, goats, and handicraft items. There are some interesting competitions like a tug of war between women teams against men called the Matka phod. Other competitions like the longest moustache competition and bridal competition also maintain the energy of the festival.
