Dal recipe: Dal Tadka version 1

Dal stew is prepared using a pressure cooker. For the first version of dal stew, measure the amount of dal you will need to prepare and mix it with water, salt and a pinch of turmeric powder. For one cup of dal, use two and a half cups of water and close the lid of the pressure cooker and let it cook till you get three whistles when cooked at medium heat. Once the dal is done, then you can add more water later depending on how thick you want your dal to be. In a pan, temper some cumin seeds, a pinch of asafoetida, sliced green chillies or dry red chillies, curry leaves, and mustard seeds. Add the tempering into your dal and mix it well. Just before serving mix a spoon of ghee into your dal and give it a final whirl before serving.
