Diwali is celebrated widely all over the world. The story of Diwali is primarily connected to the victory of good over evil and light over darkness. The importance of this festival is that Lord Rama and his wife Sita came back to their kingdom from an exile after defeating the demon king Ravan. Diwali is celebrated at a stretch of full-fledged five days in Indian Hindu families with specific importance and rituals. Houses are decorated all inside out with candles, lanterns, diyas and flowers with lot of enthusiasm.

The craze for Chaklis during Diwali is at its peak. Undeniably, when Diwali is around, our taste buds are stimulated with the craving for delicacies including Chaklis.

Different types of Chaklis to prepare this Diwali:

Schezwan Chakli

  • To begin making this tangy snack recipe, heat refined oil in a skillet and fry frozen fries in it. Once the fries are golden and crisp, shift them to a bowl and drizzle salt.
  • In another bowl, add tamarind sauce or chutney, chat masala, grated cheese cubes, cheese sauce (cheddar), Schezwan sauce and jalapeno cheese sauce. Stir to mix well.
  • Add fried chakli to the sauce mix and mix well. Layer these Chaklis on the fries. Here, you have your 'Schezwan Chakli' and enjoy with a glass of your favourite fizz.

Tomato Chakli

  • First, grind the tomatoes and sieve it and transfer to a bowl. 
  • Then add ginger powder, sugar, salt, malai, sesame seeds, jeera, red chilli powder and mix well.
  • Then add the rice flour and bind the medium soft dough.
  • Add water only if it requires.
  • Put the dough in greased chakli mould and make chaklis on a butter paper or plastic sheet and deep fry in hot oil on medium flame till pink.

Rice Chakli

  • First roughly crush cumin seeds and ajwain together into the blender.
  • Heat 3 tsp oil. Take rice flour, besan, add crushed cumin and ajwain, coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, sesame seeds, salt to taste and mix all dry ingredients together.
  • Pour hot oil, mix well, now add water and start to knead the dough.
  • The consistency of the dough should be like regular chapati dough. Cover and let it sit for 30 minutes.
  • Deep hand in cold water, take big enough ball from the dough and add into chakli maker and make chakli into the desired shape.
  • Deep fry chaklis till it gets a light brown colour from both the sides.
