Gram flour is a versatile kitchen ingredient that can be used in numerous ways. Here are the food items that you can prepare using besan. Use these methods as an inspiration and use your creativity buds to prepare some dish of your own and who knows you might create something new.

As a batter

Besan is used as a batter along with water, salt, and green chillies. The batter is used to dip the cut raw vegetable pieces in the gram flour batter and deep fry them in oil. Many pakoda items are made using the gram flour batter including panner pakodas, raw banana pakodas, potato pakodas, onion pakodas, brinjal pakodas and any vegetable you want to try can be made into pakodas using besan batter.

As a curry

Many of you might not have known that besan is also used as a curry. It is usually prepared on festive occasions as it takes some skill to make besan into a curry, but the final product is a lip-smacking savoury item that is worth all the efforts. Basically, the besan batter is cooked, cooled, cut and then fried which is added as the last step after the gravy is done the cooking. The curry is an amazing addition to the menu of non-dairy eaters as it's gluten-free.

As a thickener

Dahi Kadhi is a famous North Indian dish which is famous for its sour and tangy taste. The main ingredient of the dish is besan and dahi. The besan acts as a thickener in the savoury dish. Dahi kadhi is usually served with rice and is made by tempering some cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and curry leaves that is added on top of the kadhi.
