The occasion of World Food Day is celebrated this year on October 16. The day is celebrated in honour of the establishing of the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The FAO was founded in the year 1945. The whole idea of the organization was put forth by Dr Pál Romány who was the former Hungarian Minister for Agriculture and Food. He reportedly led the delegation during a session of the FAO Conference. The occasion is celebrated globally and focuses on raising awareness on food-related issues like hunger and poverty.

According to reports, The World Food Day is revered at the headquarters in Rome with the presence of the authoritative figures and the government leaders for the official ceremony.

The celebration of The World Food Day in the headquarters also includes a lecture from eminent professor Jeffrey D. Sachs.
