Restaurant search and online delivery service company Zomato announced on Tuesday, September 4, that it will delist the restaurants that do not abide by the rules and regulations set by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) from its food delivery platform. To provide better service to its customers, Zomato assured that it will not compromise on the quality of food and public health.
The food service company has removed the restaurants from its platform that have not been able to submit an FSSAI license. The strict action was taken up to ensure the public health, the company stated. Zomato on Tuesday, September 4, took to social media and announced the news. An official announcement about the same was made on Zomato's official Twitter account that read, "We are de-listing hundreds of restaurants to ensure a higher standard of hygiene in the food delivery sphere."
However, in an official statement released, the food-delivery giant has also stated that the restaurants will be relisted again on Zomato's food delivery platform once they provide the company with their FSSAI licenses. Also, some restaurants which have not provided their license yet but have gained good reviews by the customers and have high Zomato ratings will be exempted from immediate delisting. They will be given a deadline until the end of September 2018, to present their licenses.
The company had introduced 'Food Hygiene Ratings' last year that allowed the customers to rate on the quality of food provided by the restaurants. The company stated that the review service was launched since they take hygiene very seriously.
In the official statement released by the company, Deepinder Goyal, the founder and CEO of Zomato said, "At Zomato, we care about our users as much as we care about our restaurant partners. Without a balance between these two elements, we wouldn't be able to adhere to our long-held mission - better food for more people. However, it hurts us when regulations and hygiene standards are not followed by restaurants."
Zomato was founded in 2008 by Indian entrepreneurs Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah. The app-based food-delivery and restaurant search service brought them success in a short span of time. Zomato is currently operating in 23 countries around the world.
