Facts about corns and calluses

  • Corn is not a skin disease; it is formed as a result of your body's reaction to pressure
  • Corns are formed when the dead skin cells come together to form a hard barrier to prevent excessive pressure or friction, so the epidermis of the skin becomes a callus and serves to form corn
  • Corns could be painful to touch as they may be inflamed
  • Corns can get infected in the presence of moisture
  • Calluses aren't unbearably painful when compared to corns
  • Calluses are larger in size and you may often find them in the foot sole near the sides. Bike riders can find calluses formed below their fingers on the palm

Home remedies for corn and callus:

  • Soaking hands or feet in warm water softens the corns and calluses and could help to alleviate the pain
  • Regular moisturisation of your skin helps to prevent dryness and friction that causes the callus in the first place
  • Do not wear super tight shoes as it increases the friction between your skin and the shoe
  • If the corn has become very big in size that it affects your daily life, you should get them removed with the help of a physician
