Pollution: Four ways to protect your family from air pollution

Pollution is making people prone to health issues. We have compiled some of the common ways to protect your family from the side effects of air pollution.

After Diwali, Delhi and neighbouring cities are cocooned in a thick layer of toxic smog which ceases to settle down easily. Polluted air is making people prone to acute health problems like cough, irritation, to chronic health issues inclusive of asthma and cardiovascular diseases. Not only children, but elders too have to go through extreme conditions fighting with their breathing problems. We have compiled some of the common ways to protect your family from the side effects of air pollution.

1. Avoid taking a morning stroll or jog

Exercising regularly is essential but only when you are inhaling fresh air. An early morning workout is best recommended by the doctors, yet refrain from it when you are breathing in toxic air. People should go for indoor exercise sessions until the heavy smog settles outside. Moreover, you can shift your workout schedule to evening.

2. Make a habit of taking steam every day

Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil in hot water to the extent that it is appropriate of using for steam. Do this activity every day to help your nasal passages relax and get rid of harmful pollutants and minute substances. Usually, people who have influenza opt for this, but if you are healthy you can go for it every once in a week.

3. Benefits of jaggery

According to research, jaggery has proved to be a beneficial replacement of sugar. As per the Agricultural and Processed Food Product Export Development Authority, this Ayurveda sweetener even helps to flush out pollutants from your body, specifically lungs. You can add jaggery with your ghee loaded chapatti or use it instead of sugar in desserts.

4. Vitamin C rich intake

Consume fruits and vegetables which are loaded with Vitamin C and Magnesium and foods which are filled with Omega Fatty Acids. These nutrients make up for your healthy diet and keep your immunity levels up. Furthermore, you can opt for refreshing herbal teas with the goodness of ginger, cardamom and tulsi. Having this healthful blend once or twice in a day can prove to be beneficial for your digestion and strengthens the immune system.
